And I realized I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
I have no idea where I want to go, what degree I want and anything like that. I don't even have a proper portfolio!
Now, I have good grades in hard classes and good standardized test scored (97 percentile in PSAT, but I've done better). I'd like to think I'm not strictly "anime" or "furry" or good at only one thing (though I tend to update a narrow breadth of subjects/styles because that is my favorite thing to do).
SO WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE, PEOPLE?! All I know is that whatever college I go to, I want to keep in the states but far enough away from Texas that I wouldn't be expected to visit. I want a place that's bigger than my High School, at 2,000ish enrolled. Also, I want to be surrounded by people who would challenge me, but not make me feel uncomfortable. Which I think would be easy. I'm also thinking of taking summer classes in art, too.
So, any suggestions? I don't really know where to begin.
PS- I have a new obsession over Unferth and Grendel.
PPS- I'm sick. :c

"It's so stimulating being your hat!"
As for me, I want to major in Animation or something related to that, maybe story boarding too, but anything in that field would be great to me D: but art schools are so fucking expensive...I need to fill out financial aid forums now that you mention it...sorry to rant here! xD

I'm already feeling better a bit, but still stuffy. <:c

For the longest time, I thought Nair was a clothing company. For really, really short shorts.
I wanted to go into Animation first, but we had insufficient funds to send me to the school of my dreams; a private art school in San Francisco. So instead, I went to our local community college, and took some general education classes that transfer, and also took some art courses.
I am now in my second year at my community college. There are many great artists in my classes, and I've had the same art teacher since I started. I have learned many things about painting, drawing, sketching, pencil, etc. I have gotten every single one of my drawings put up on the wall (which means I got an A on it) and I have never so fulfilled and open with my art, or art in general.
Now, after talking to some animation students I've realized that animation is not for me. It is very fast paced, and I'm very laid back. So now I'm wanting to get a BFA (Bachelors in Fine Arts) in Illustration at a California State University. I'm very pleased with my decision, and while it may take another year for me to take all my transferrable courses here, I don't mind.
One thing I can tell you, is that you do not need to go to a prestigious art school to get a job in art. If you can get a spectacular education at a community college for $20 a unit compared to an art school for $3,000 a unit with the same education; go for the cheaper!
Even moreso, if you're not entirely sure where to go, just try a local college. At mine, they have a very professional career assesment test you can take for $15 and it will tell you many different careers you might be interested in, based on your interests, drive, etc.

And how well do you know your tendencies.
|D; I knew I shouldn't go into Graphics Major, because I have no will to work under someone else or commissions.... Or whatever a Graphic Designs major will do.
I"m majoring in Art Education (So far. I'm only a freshman in college). I will use that to teach Art to High Schoolers.
Art majoring is really expensive. I've already spent a couple hundred just on supplies. And this was just for my two Art classes that are only a semester long.
Art Education sounds very fun and hard work, and I can see how that would be really, really rewarding. On the other hand, I think I would be so busy breathing down the little delinquent's necks I wouldn't have much time to pick up a pencil myself. XD I applaud the dedication of anyone who can wrestle down a rowdey senior trying to pad their GPA with an "easy A", as half the class I was in for art 1 was doing. Course, I was always the Good Little Student.
